Flying M Air Extra: About Maria’s Obsession with Fire Towers

A video from the Flying M Air YouTube channel.

I flew from Wenatchee, WA to McMinnville, OR on March 15, 2021 and, along the way, made a tiny detour to check out a fire tower on a little mountain. In this video, I show you the fire tower and explain my weird obsession with fire towers on aeronautical charts.

Helicopter Flight Up the Salt River

A video from the Flying M Air YouTube channel.

Here’s a cockpit POV view looking out the front window between me and my buddy Woody as we flew from Falcon Field (FFZ) in Mesa, AZ all the way up the Salt River to Roosevelt Lake. The cockpit intercom audio did not record [insert eye roll emoji here] so I wound up narrating it in the editing process.

I want to give a HUGE shout out to the channel members and Patreon patrons who made this flight possible — I had to rent this helicopter to do the flight and make the video.

You can see Woody in a tour of a King Air airplane in this video: https://youtu.be/1cylLFqhnzg

Helicopter Power Line Work

A video from the Flying M Air YouTube channel.

The title and narration pretty much says it all. We were driving across the desert and spotted some helicopter activity near some power lines. We found a road that took us right to the action. (BTW, This is the kind of thing you can see when you shut off the TV/video game/Internet and get out a little.)

I found this work fascinating and I think that if I were alone I would have captured hours of footage. But I think this taste from two angles is more than enough.

Anyone know what those line guys make? I sure hope it’s a lot!

I do know the name of the company performing this work, but have decided not to release it. Why? Well although I’m sure they were following all safety precautions and their pilots were properly trained for the work — you don’t get a job like this by being a fly-by-night operator — there’s always ONE viewer who finds something to complain about and I’m not going to help them cause trouble for these folks. Can’t you just sit back, watch, and be amazed at the things we can do?

Comments? Leave them below. I hope you enjoyed this; I’ll try to release other new content soon.

Helicopter Flight to Twisp

A “nosecam” video from the FlyingMAir YouTube channel.

This is the third of several videos I’m releasing from a flight with a friend from the Wenatchee, WA, area to Twisp, WA and back. In this video, Cyndi and I depart her home on Wenatchee Heights and head almost due north to Twisp, WA. Although it starts with a cockpit view with viewers looking over our shoulders, I quickly switch to the nosecam. I also cut cockpit audio in favor of a narration added during editing. There’s some great scenery along the way: the Columbia River, Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, the Rocky Reach Dam, the Entiat River, a hanging valley, Lake Chelan, Manson, the Methow River and Valley, and finally Twisp.

I’ll probably release one or two more videos from this day of flying. Subscribe now and turn on Notifications so you don’t miss them!

Flying to Cyndi’s House

Another video from the FlyingMAir YouTube channel.

Here’s another short one…

This is the second of several videos I’m releasing from a flight with a friend from the Wenatchee, WA, area to Twisp, WA and back. In this video, I fly from my house, where I’ve gone to pick up an iPad I use with Foreflight while flying, to my friend Cyndi’s house on Wenatchee Heights. Along the way, I bitch about losing the foamy thing on my microphone — I swear there’s a black hole in my helicopter — and point out the Huey base where my friend’s Stan’s bright red helicopter is parked. See if you can see Bigfoot at Cyndi’s house.

Look for subsequent videos in this series in upcoming weeks. My cameras didn’t all behave, but I got cockpit POV and Nosecam footage for most of the trip. If you haven’t subscribed yet, what are you waiting for?
