Mindless America?

I get a funny in e-mail that illustrates what I’ve been saying for some time now.

My friend Tom sent me the following joke via e-mail:

A man enters a bar and orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender. The robot serves him a perfectly prepared cocktail, and then asks him,

“What’s your IQ?”

The man replies “150” and the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming factors, Quantum physics and spirituality, bio-mimicry, environmental interconnectedness, string theory, nanotechnology, and sexual proclivities.

The customer is very impressed and thinks, “This is really cool.” He decides to test the robot. He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink. Again, the robot serves him the perfectly prepared drink and asks him,

“What’s your IQ?”

The man responds, “about 100.” Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time, about NASCAR, super models, favorite fast foods, guns, and women’s breasts.

Really impressed, the man leaves the bar and decides to give the robot one more test. He heads out and returns, the robot serves him and asks,

“What’s your IQ?”

The man replies, “Er, 50, I think.”

And the robot says, real slowly, “So…ya gonna vote for Bush again?”

  1. Well, clearly you want to cut loose any readers who don’t conform to your Daily Kos party line, so this U. C. Berkeley Phi Beta Kappa who voted for Bush is clearing your Bookmark. Too bad you couldn’t segregate your rude political comments on a separate page so that those of us who enjoyed what was unique and interesting about your Blog could have read on unaware.

  2. And it’s too bad that you, like so many other Bush supporters, can’t take a joke.

    Hey, lighten up!

In all honesty, I thought the funny part of the joke was the part about the 100 IQ people. That’s the part that is clearly emphasising what I’ve been saying for years: that the average American doesn’t care for much more than he/she sees on television.

And if you’d bother to read between the lines for the 50 IQ person, you’d realize that it’s not possible to vote for George Bush AGAIN. He can only run two terms. That’s what I thought was funny about the punchline.

The saddest part of the whole Bush situation is the fact that his strongest supporters are so stubborn about their feelings. Even when his approval rating dropped below 40% — almost the lowest in history — people were still blindly supporting him, repeating party lines like mantras.

All I ask is for people to THINK.

And if it makes you feel any better, use this space to put in some good jokes against Democrats. But please make them funny, like this one was.

Oh, and by the way, I’ve been getting a flood of e-mail from people who LIKED the joke. Far more than from people who took it personally, like Loiseau obviously did.
