Malaga, WA Clouds Time-Lapse

We got weather! Watch a whole day’s worth in 9 minutes.

With low clouds and rain in the forecast yesterday, I set up my GoPro in time-lapse mode to record the movement of the clouds. Unfortunately, I set it up for one shot every 1/2 second — what was I thinking? — and had to edit the resulting video to play at 5x the recorded speed. Set to music provided by the folks at YouTube (“Angel Guides” by Jesse Gallagher), it might offer you 9 minutes of relaxation. See if you can count the area burn piles and watch the rain come and go.

  1. Great music, fascinating images.
You seem to be at the centre of a low pressure system there?
Some of the smoke from the orchard fires is blowing east while the higher stratus is blowing to the west! Strange.

    • Stuff was blowing all over the place in that video. So interesting to see how the wind is different at different levels or different times of the day.

We’re currently have a LOT of rain — which is unusual, even this time of year. A storm has come in from the west coast and we’re getting wet. 100% chance of rain all day this week and rain in the forecast for the next 7 days. I’m assuming that when today’s clouds lift I’ll see snow on the nearby mountains. With the trees still turning their autumn colors, it’ll be beautiful.

      • I’m guessing that as the global atmosphere warms it carries more moisture and dumps it quite suddenly
in torrents, when the rising air suddenly cools at altitude.
Here in the UK we are still getting about the same number of rain days but showers can be very heavy leading to localised flooding. Not quite as bad as the German floods in late summer but worrying nonetheless. No danger of floods where you are, I imagine?
